I have a relatively stock 91 XLT that I am considering giving a little lift to. I do a lot of offroad driving in mud and snow and would like to add a little clearance to help me over the rough spots. What can I expect out of a body lift or a suspention lift? I've read every post out there and still don't have a good idea what a 2" susp. lift will add for clearance. Also I don't have unlimited funds so I need to be frugal. Can anyone help me. Thanks you guys (and gals) are awsome!

A susp lift will not give you more clearence under your axles! That has to be taken care of with taller tires. Hope this helps.

The suspension lift will lift not only the body of the vehicle but also the suspension components. It gives you increased articulation over the stock system.

The body lift basically lifts the body but the suspension components are not changed, articulation stays the same.

Both will give you the necessary clearance to add larger/wider tires to a certain extent.

The suspension lift is costlier because it requires new/modified components and installation cost. Usually cost from $300+ for parts and a fe more hundred for installation. The James Duff 2.5" kit is by far the most inexpensive kit on the market.

The body lift is not expensive to buy (about $70-80$) and installation can often be done at home.

It really comes down to what do you want to do with the vehicle. For off-roading, a suspension lift is better.
