I recently had my heads and a couple lifters replaced. the lifters replaced were on the right side. Shortly after that I started to get a noise coming from the driver side. Thought it was a knocking sound like a bad lifter, but sounds more like a fluttering sound. it only does it when I accelerate. doesn't do it in idle or if I rev the engine in park, only when moving and accelerating. Anyone have a clue? I'm thinking maybe the mechanic didn't get the manifold tight when they put it back on, or damaged a manifold gasket or just didn't put new manifold gaskets on it. Does anyone know if this is the cause of my strange noise? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. It's getting on my nerves big time.

Manifold

If it only does it when you accelerate, its the manifold gasket

if it is a manifold leak, look around the gasket area of it on the engine block. if its leaking and had been for several days, then you will see a small black-powdery burned spot were it is leaking. you said the mechanic replaced only the suspected bad lifters? why didnt he replace all of them? lifters are cheap, and he is already in the motor. if one or two are bad, then the others are about to go too. if you do suspect lifter tick, then add a quart of really thick oil additive (like motor honey) to the engine oil. if it goes away for a little while, then it is a lifter. i know, my 5.0 is ticking away right now.

well he claimed the lifters were $42 each. I got away with only $200 in labor, so I didn't question it.

Hey man let me know if you find out what the problem is, and i will do the same for you! I have the SAME probelm for over a year now, and NOONE knows how to fix it. I have had lifters, rocker arms, and alll the above replaced. I have lost a lot of money trying to get the problem fixed. Good luck man, I will pray for ya only if you pray for me. LOL.... Good Luck. If it was the manifold gasket you would notice a loss in coolant and a WHITE not black residue on the block below the gasket. I would re-torque the manifold bolts. They are known to come loose and cause this type of problem. You should have had all the lifters replaced.
If there was no manifold gasket you would know it. That's not the source, but if the gasket was not installed correctly it would leak.
:chug:

my fault, i should have been more clear:hammer: , i meant exhaust manifold. did not mean to imply intake manifold.

What ended up happening? What is your lifter or manifold gasket?
