Well my 91 navajo with a 93 4.0 Non Egr Motor with around 105K Miles and Pre 88 BII Trans are not doing well , My trans is okay minus the leak , The motor is ticking a good amount when cold , and since my Trans Doe's not have OD it's seeing around 2800-3000 Rpm at around 55-60 mph , and when I am on a incline between those rpm's and speed I can hear lifter/Rocker arm tick Knock , it sounds more like a clunking at 3000 Rpm .

I've seen the many threads about the Tick , But not sure where to start at , I will only have about 3/4 Of a Day to work on it , so Hoping I can go buy some gaskets and at least do a slight inspection of the noise area and try and see what the noise is and if I can fix it in a short day .

Being Not sure how long it's going to last bothers me , It's my only vehicle and do not have anybody I can rely on for a ride to and from work .

Just thinking about options here really .

Sure wish we could replace the lifters in these engines without pull'n the heads huh?

That would be nice , I found a 94 Ranger fairly close to me with a good motor and trans , Here is the ad for it , I think he would take less for the motor and trans if bought together I would assume ? . Ooppps , Wrong link ... http://atlanta.craigslist.org/sat/pts/4363808135.html

Hopefully you can get away with rockers and push rods if none of the lifters are collapsed.

when i went to fix a collapsed lifter i went to the junkyardm, found an explorer with the head pulled and lifters lying around, took apart the junk lifters till i found the springs i needed, then put the springs in my pocket and left. it took like 15 mins total to find enough springs to never have to do that again. both check ball springs and main springs

That's what I'm hoping for now , if the lifters look like their holding together , I'll just go with rockers and push rods , I will update this when I can tear it down and see what I can do . .

I had a driver rear wheel cylinder give out on me this morning at 6:15 am , My pedal went almost to the floor after trying to slow down , stopped and looked and seen brake fluid all over the outside of my tire and in the wheel well , so I had to replace that after work today , Only replaced the driver side wheel cylinder , brake kit -springs and etc , the shoes and drum , I couldn't get my drum off the pass side to check and replace the shoes if I could , so will try that again either tomorrow after work or Sunday on my day off , This thing sure took a beating for some years before It became a DD again lol . Wish me Luck .
