I haven't opened the liftgate for a while and the lock has always been a little weird. The glass part sometimes would take two or more presses of the button to open it. But the handle near license plate has always worked fine to open the whole gate. However i went to use it the other day and could not get the glass or the lift gate to open. When i press the unlock button on my alarm remote i can hear the lock go on or off, so the actuator sounds like its working.

Do these locks just wear out after a while or do they just need to be greased up or something? I don't think i can remove the panel on the gate with it closed so i don't know what to do about it now.

Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

I would like to know too because i have a similar problem. I am hoping to avoid any flat tires too because the spare cannot be lowered with the hatch closed either.

i had the same sorta problem last winter (they always have to happen it winter when its like -30C outside!!). you can get the trim panel off with the gate closed, its a *****, but it can be done. for my lock, it was always real stiff when you pressed it in, and if i put the key into it it would not open it from the outside. then one day, brawn overpowered brain, went to push the button in, and all i could hear was plastic break inside the gate. when i did pull the panel off, and get the gate open, what had happened was, there is a little C-clip that had some how worked its way out, and fell into the gate. after i put the clip back on, and tested it, it has worked fine. if you thing getting the panel off the gate when it is closed, try getting the door panel of on the drivers side, when the door won't open! that was a 3 hour ordeal!!

Get some silicone grease. works great for locks.

Well i can now open the lift gate glass by using the key but still cant get the main handle to work for the entire gate. Guess i am going to be taking apart this weekend. Thanks for the suggestions
