95 Explorer
My wife just gave me her really nice 95 explorer 2dr. No payments whatsoever left on it, so I'm thinking new TOY!!!! Problem is, as you all know, ifs on this year suks in the aftermarket suspension category. I'm looking for anyone with this type of vehicle that has managed a good lift. I'm not even beyond slapping full-size straights under it. My goal is 33X14 swampers on 12 inch rims. Anybody seen anything like this or know anyone like this with this model year? Yes, big goals. Don't tell me the negatives, tell me what you've seen or managed to fit under a 95. Any and all help appreciated.

Lizardtrac is going for a Dana 44 up front right now. I think rockram steering is like $800 but would be the bomb. I think one could easily run leafs up front but if you wanted to go and get creative some coilovers could be sweet. From what I have seen a solid axle in a new body style would give you like an 8" lift so you would want to spring over your rear axle, get a new pack without a monoleaf and some blocks
Best luck & welcome aboard

I've seen some pretty big 95+ lifted. You can buy the ranger body lift kit and adapt it for the explorer. If you use the search function on the site you can find all sorts of threads about people's body lifts and how they have went. Good luck with the X!

Hi! Welcome to the site!

I'm in New Bern, NC. My '95 2 door is lifted running 32" BFG AT's and is locked up in the rear. By any chance is that an expedition model explorer you have? or just a sport? Also, if you're free this weekend you could join us in Harrisonburg, VA to see what the 95+Explorers are really made of. Get back to me,
Jason

You sound pretty hardcore about making this into a nice toy. I'd say go solid, and run 35's or 37's (you might need fiberglass for 37's, but Perry's Fab N Fiber can hook you up)

I can fit 33x12.5 TSLs on a 8" rim.

My lift...
2" BL
TT in front (do a search for torsion twist)
add a leaf and shackle in rear

You can run the Trailmaster 4in lift up front, or wait (who knows how long) for the superlift 4in kit. RCD suspension has a kit comming out, but who knows when and it'll be pricey. You can always throw a body lift on as well. For running a 33x14... use a 15x10in rim... that's what I run my 33x14in boggers on.. they'll do the job, they're cheaper, and the bead is much more likely to stay on.

from what i have read the 95-97 explorers dont have a suspension lift out but a few have been able to modify other kits. the prob is with the torsion bar brackets i believe. do a search on Ray Lobato, he did the first 95-97 suspension i read about here and it looks awesome!! i believe there was a 95+ sport on the featured explorers page running 33x14's. very cool looking. i saw Pete's truck (RFR2212) firsthand and his truck/tires look huge! good luck and keep us posted.

Hi and welcome to the site.
Yes it can be done, and it's not really that hard, however if I were you, I would wait and see how the RCD Ranger kit comes along and go for that. It might be expensive, but if they can get rid of the torsion bars, it will be well worth the money. I would show you some pictures of my truck, but photopoint went under and I haven't put the pictures up on another site yet. You can however see my truck on the icon below my name.
Plan it out well and you won't waste any money.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

That's some great info. I was considering trading off the ol 95 sport, but I'm really fond of it and it always runs great. Plus I know where to pick up a whipplecharger for it. And since there is a chance that I can fit some big meats under it, I'm gonna hang on to it.
I already love this website.:)

Jason_25, when you say Harrisonburg VA, is that up in northern virginia along I-81? I'm also interested in joining your organization.

Yep, Harrisonburg is in Northern VA. It's this weekend actually. We'd love to have you go. And all I need for the ECX details are your full name, e-mail, the city and state in which you live.

Jason,
i would also like to join your east coast chapter; i am in jacksonville, nc. If you could offer any info on how to and then maybe i would be able to keep in touch and hook up for some get togethers.

And the Michigan people are still left out of the ECX:frustrate

V-8 torsionbars

Iwas told that torsionbars from a V-8 powered 4dr Explorer was the least expensive way to lift a 95-97 Explorer. The fatter bars from Ford cost around $50.00 a piece and can be identified by the spring code " 1 ". Also if you want to replace the mono spring in the rear, use Ford spring code " F ". At least that was what I was told, and the parts guy at Ford agreed that all the parts as far as steering and suspension components were the same 6cyl and 8cyl except the torsision bars themselves.

Actually you just want the the "B" code torsion bars. They are the stiffest, I just had it done.

superlift makes a lift for 95 explorers...go to www.truckaddons.com and look in the lift section under superlift

Ex95XLT, where did you see that?? There is no kit specifically for the 95. The 95-97 Explorers have welded on rear torsion bar mounts. If they do come out with a kit, it will likely be for the 98+ Explorers, (like Trailmaster's lift) because the 98+ have bolted on rear torsion bar mounts. The kit can probably be altered to fit a 95, after your grind off your mounts, but it's not a direct bolt on.
