Hello,

First of all I'm new to this forum. I have a 2005 Sport Trac 2x4. Everything is still stock on the truck. I am wanted to lift it, but after reading so many forums and projects, I have confused myself.

What is the simpliest way to lift it so that I can put larger tires on it? Which brings me to another question. What tire size is better, 265 or 285?

I appreciate your help, Cody

The easiest way to lift your truck would be to do a Torsion Twist and then put warrior shackles on the back. That should do about 2" of lift all around. If that's still not enough, a 3" body lift will only run you about 300$. as far as tires go I have no idea.

Most of us who install body lifts only do so because a suspension lift (of any sort) is so expensive for a 4x4. Being a 2wd, you can install lift spindles. All these do is simply replace your front spindles (what the wheels bolt to) with new spindles that move the wheels down (usually 3-3.5"). This gives you more ground clearance, and also make the front stance wider. Spindles should allow you to fit 32-33" tires, or a 285. You could fit a 265 stock so why bother keeping that size? ;)
The spindles for a ford ranger edge 2wd should fit the 2wd sport trac.
For the rear, warrior shackles will lift the rear 1.5".
A body lift is still an option. The kit is cheap ($300 or so), but it is a lot of work, and would cost a lot to have someone else do it.
Also, notice that you can fit some 15" wheels, I did on my 05. 15" tires are SO SO much cheaper than 16's.

How would you match the spindles in the rear? SOA?

SOA might be a bit much, close to 6" of lift. But I suppose if you got a 3.5" spindle lift, and cranked the torsion bars 1.5", and did a SOA in the rear, the rear would only sit an inch higher. My sport trac has more "rake" than that right now with the rear shackles and nothing done to the front, looks fine. This may be the best solution..?
You could also go with shackles, and an add-a-leaf, and the front would probably sit a little higher than the rear.
Or buy lift springs.
