Lifting hood shocks?

Where do i get these? Mine keep the hood open long enough for you to start working on something then slam, the hood comes down!! Thanks, Richard

i got the ones for my moms explorer at allied auto.... they are our local parts tore... not one like kragens or pepboys that carries ricer type stuff though... just replacement parts.... no customizing stuff....

Yea, most autoparts stores have them. Measure the length extended, then take a shock off and match it up. Watch the end fittings, the weight it can hold, and the extended and compressed lengths.

AutoZone

Auto Zone had a manual which told me the Explorer hood struts I would need. Be warned, keep your receipt. Maybe I have the worst luck ni the worl, but TWO broke inside 30 days. Since I had my receipt, they were replaced for free, but only for 30 days. $16.99 each, and they work perfectly now....

Went through three pairs of those Autozone lift supports, and none of them lasted over a month. I ordered the OEM's from FPN for $35 per pair and have had no problems sense.

Not to hijack or anything, but RickOTR, how do you like your Motorcraft s/p wires? My mileage dropped as soon as I put in the Bosch's (I think I am one of the few X's that Bosch's won't work with) and am looking for a replacement idea. Taylor wires only got about 30,000 miles on them......
And how did the EE swaybar affect your truck?

I got mine for about $25 for the pair. They were some fairly odd name, like Mr. Support or something like that, I really can't recall the name but I've seen them at Napa, and other places. The name wasn't that stupid, they did seem somewhat reputable. But they sucked! I'm just bitter because I didn't keep a receipt and didn't think about returning them. One broke off when I was working on the X already frustrated with other things, then when I was out in the field offroading, I lifted the hood and put went to lower it when the thing busted off, I ripped it off and threw it because I was so pissed that they broke. Worked for a couple months though....now I've got to support the hood with something when I change my oil tomorrow, unless I can find some sucker to hold my hood up while I do the work :smoke:

I'd like to get a set of these for my '91 - Any suggestions? I'd order it from Explorer Express, but the last thing I ordered out of the US cost me twice as much as the Canadian fee once I got nailed for duty.

Any suggestions?

I did not notice any change in gas milage with the motorcraft s/p wires, and like them so far. I did notice an improved idle though. Mine are the ones from Ford Racing 9mm for the V8, so I installed the wire that closely fit the OEM's. I think the EE sway bays where a great improvement over the OEM bar and good money spent. I have had no experience with the Taylor wires, but the Jacobs only lasted 30,000 miles before they started to rot in the coilpack tower and ruined my coilpack.

Got mine at Pep Boys for like $7 or $8 a piece. Took all of 2 minutes to replace both. Held up for 2 months and they seem solid enough. I need to replace my rears soon (they're sticking).
