This is how it was installed notice how the old mount is welded to the frame. No need to cut it out. The bracket goes right over it.

You will also have to modify the other side of the bracket. This is to help keep the pork chop on the torsion bar from moving around. It is actually an angle iron, but you can't se the other part . I keep telling myself that I'm gonna take a picture of the piece without the cover so you can see it better. I'll get around to it here soon.

So you are saying quite a bit of grinding, welding, and fabrication. Probably not something a novice should take on...

How hard was it?

They dont rub anymore...after cutting about 10 pounds of fender off.

Robert~ I'd be glad to help. You wouldn't want clint to drive you anywhere, his drive shaft keeps falling out and I'd have to tow him back anyways.

Hopefully I get everything I need before we start the lift, however if a bolt breaks or something gets overlooked I guess I'll have to pick the lesser of two evils. Let's see, exploding tires or an Explorer that resembles my German Shepherd when he sees a good looking leg, .....hmmm.

As soon as I get a confirmation on price then I'll get the kit on order. Looks like Father's day is coming a little early.

What I'm saying is that bracket is the only thing that gets modified. If you can get a shop to modify it for you, the rest can be done by you, with some help. The toughest thing to do is put that damn steering slide in, but if you use the Superlift kit, you won't have to mess with that, since Superlift uses a completely new steering knuckle.

So if Trailmaster would offer a modified bracket from the start it would be a bolt on (with maybe some new holes drilled) for the '95-'97. I wonder if enough people hounded them with the idea if they would consider it. I would really like to get a 4" suspension lift. That and a 3" body lift and I think Barney's height will be about right.

update

I received a reply back from Central 4 Wheel Drive regarding using the PA 3" body lift on a '97 Explorer. I'm wondering if it has more to do with the rollover issue than a possibility of something breaking? Any one have any thoughts?

Here is the reply:

"I am sorry I thought you had a 98 Ranger not an Explorer. I miss read the application, I talked to Performance Accessories direct on the steering extension, they do not recommend using this extension and they will not sell it to me seperatly, as my conversation with many at Performance Accessories, there is a reason they do not make a body lift for this vehicle. In my opinion, your taking a pretty risky chance in doing this task. If you have anymore questions give me a call."

Superlift Kit

Superlift has the '98 and up ranger kit and is coming out with a SportTrak lift this summer. Which one would be better for lifting my 4 door '98 Explorer XLT 4x4?

Well... maybe you will have to nake them believe that you have a 98-00 Ranger, so you can get your kit.... That will be the only way... or maybe you will wan't to spend some money on that trailmaster kit......

I will go with the Ranger kit!!! It's better than staying stock...
