ok i know that there is a bunch of threads out there with lift info, but i just wanted some opinions on which lift i should do for my 94 xlt? it would only be for occasional off roading, and for hopfully some of the events this site planes. so if i could get some opinions on lifts/tire sizes and such that would be great. oh yeah the ex is bone stock at the moment and i didn't really want to go bigger then 4-6" thanks

if you aren't going to push it too hard then Rough Country makes a decent, budget-minded lift for your plans. If you want to beat on it then go with Skyjacker or James Duff. they both have good reputations for well-built lift systems.

4" with 33s or 5.5-6" with 35s seems to be pretty common. You can fit more tire with less lift if you don't mind trimming your fenders. If you go up to 33s or bigger, I suggest getting new ring & pinion gears for your front and rear axles. Your drive train will thank you later and you will retain close-to-stock performance. It all adds up in the $ department kinda fast. But I think it's better to do it all right instead of doing it all half-assed and hoping that something doesn't break.

I just asked a question. which to choose

MOTIVE GEAR HIGH PERFORMANCE RING AND PINION -- Fits Ford-style axle; 3.73 ratio; 8.8 in. ring diameter; 1.626 in. pinion shaft diameter; 41 ring teeth; 11 pinion teeth; 30 pinion splines; 10-7/16 in. x 20 right-hand threaded bolts; Made of 8620 steel; CNC-machined; Double lapped; Features index tooth spacing and central contact patterning

Or

MOTIVE GEAR HIGH PERFORMANCE RING AND PINION -- Fits Ford-style axle; 4.56 ratio; 8.8 in. ring diameter; 1.626 in. pinion shaft diameter; 41 ring teeth; 9 pinion teeth; 30 pinion splines; 10-7/16 in. x 20 right-hand threaded bolts; Made of 8620 steel; CNC-machined; Double lapped; Features index tooth spacing and central contact patterning.

take the opportunity to replace any pinion bearing, pinion seal, Timken carrier bearings, gear marking compound, crush sleeve, pinion nut, brush, Loctite adhesive, cover gasket, ring gear bolts, pinion shims , and carrier shims

the truck will give us a big thank you

Thank you very much foor your reply.

3.73s come stock in some explorers. If you wanted to run that gear ratio, instead of buying new gears you should go to a junkyard and just pull the axles from a truck that has 3.73s and install the axles in your truck. It will save you time and money.

Here is a link to a chart that you may find useful.

Thank you for your reply.
The table gives me an idea
here FRANCE there are not many truck EXPLORER.
So to find one in a junkyard that's not even worth looking.
So for me the only solution is to buy new parts.
So the best thing for me is to take as the original or a very hard. you recommend anything for me
it may be better to take a very hard. for big tires

Thank you very much.

a lot of folks run 31" tires with stock 3.73 or 4.10 gears. people with 33" tires usually run 4.56 gears. any bigger than that and you can choose between 4.88 and 5.13 gears. I am running 33" tires with 4.88s and I like the way my truck performs.

What size tire are you thinking of running on your truck?

Here in FRANCE.
That would be "" BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T / A KM2 245/70 R17 ""

since thats only a 30" tire you can probably get by without regearing. you can always regear though and have more power now, and then get a bigger tire without worrying in the future.
