Ok, First of all, thank you to the masses for all the great information here. I will be returning regularly! I've been searching for the last two hours and can't find any problems similar to mine. I have a '94 XLT Explorer with 118,000. The 4x4 don't work anymore. One day it was there, the next nothing. Both the 4x4 Hi and 4x4 Low lights work next to the push button. Also the lights beneath the RPM's work. When I put it in 4low, you hear the t-case motor (I think) engage. I thought it was the hubs, but when I put it in 4x4 and power brake, the front drive shaft does not spin. So that rules that out right? Now, everything I've read so far about the shift motor indicates that the lights wouldn't work on the dash. So, I'm clueless and have spend the last couple of hours looking in past posts, but haven't been able to find a problem like mine. Thanks for any and all help.

The transfer case on our Ex's doesn't have a front to rear axel differential...therefor, if the rear axel isn't spining (by holding the brakes), neither will the front driveshaft.
Problem sounds like the hubs, try rotating the front driveshaft by hand and see if the hubs lock. I'm sure they won't.

Thanks pugsy. I was power braking on snow, and after a I gave it some real gas, the back tires were spinning in the snow, but the front drive shaft still didn't turn. Still check the hubs? Thanks...

hum...that doesn't sound right. But ya, check the hubs first, its the cheaper fix. Who was the lucky person to look under your truck while you had the back tires spinning!! lol
