List your Explorer and the NOISES it makes!

Squeak from somewhere in the cargo area every time I go over anything, it is driving me absolutely insane I can't take it anymore! Umm, so crazy clatter noise when I accelerate at high speeds. Passenger seat rattles. Thats it.

The rear door inside used to rattle but i fixed that problem when it got shaved. The front end clunks when i go over bumps probibly cuz im lowered. thats about it though

Well lets see.....

Has some lifter tick at idle, other than that I think I have gotten rid of most of the unwanted noises. The whole truck rattles like crazy when the bass is up and that flowmaster 40 along with my intake make a good rumble at idle and roars when I get on it. Engine still pings a little bit, but i'm working on that.

This could take a minute... :)

Where to start... Rattling/tapping noise at idle, goes away when warm, comes back spontaneously. Loud ping noise when shifting to reverse or drive, fuel pump makes a gawdawful whine all the time, sputtering, clanking, banging, clunking, tires sound like a small aircraft buzzing at about 50-60 km/h and just get worse from there (I like that noise tho... *Grin*), rattling from my custom tire carrier, loud clunk around turns (no discos yet so haven't figured out this one), occasional sounds of curses being uttered by frustrated owner, loud whine eminating from same owner at each occasion wallet gets opened for the truck... :)

Wump, Wump, Wump

I hear this from the front end now. 1998 4x4 Sport, 105k miles. Any ideas?

My Brakes used to -Make a god awful screetching noise when i bought
it 1200kms ago (who says you have to sell a truck with
Pad on the brake pads
-Now my pedal just pulses from the permanent damage
on my rotor (do you have to replace rotors in pairs?)
My tools -move aroung lots and a computer moniter used to literally flip over
when i 4x4ed (before i straped it down)

Bass ratels stuff, tranny wines, somthing in engine compartment randomly squicks, Drive train clunks when engagine and slip yoke binds on hard stops

more to come :banghead:

Whine

That is too funny...my hubby said that the "whine" is a typical Ford thing too he has heard it on every Ford he has ever driven (all mine, I am a Ford fan he is not but gives in to me and my love of Explorers, this is my second one) The front end also makes a popping noise when hitting pot holes. The a/c has recently started making this odd hissing noise. The back hatch does not close properly sometimes, the handle sticks and you have to pop it out to get it to close tightly. Driver's side door squeaks and groans when you hit potholes. I live down a very long dirt road so I am sure dust and the condition of the road have contributed to its aches and pains. I have put almost 60K on it in less than 2 years so it is aging quickly. Stupid theft light is acting up occasionally staying on and then eventually turning off. But it is paid off and I love it anyway!

Oh yeah the drivers side speaker in the door cuts in and out..sometimes hitting the autodoorlocks will make it come back on...
Autodoorlock on passenger side works when it feels like it..sometimes you have to hit it L/U a few times before it works.
Vibration that comes and goes at speeds above 50

ANY SUGGESTIONS?????????

I have an annoying (can't figure out where its coming from) rattle that sounds like a Ford engineer put a plastic ball in the vent system. Seems to get worse when its cold.
Its driving me nuts...so I have to crank the music so I can't hear it. Kind of like finger nails on the black board kind of stuff. I miss my '91 Explorer (This one is a '98).

Moonroof rattles around in it's housing when open and I'm on the freeway. Moving it up an inch stops it. Just starting to get a rubbing sound from somewhere in the steering column, while turning. Doesn't happen all the time though.

I get a BANG when I really hit the brakes and a clunk after the truck stops, I get a vibration noise from the exhaust, and a rattle inside the dash/fire wall, the rattle of the rear hatch panel during acceleration, a clunk under hard acceleration, a loud rattle from both front doors when I hit a pot hole , and most recent the rear shocks started to rattle probably meaning they need changing. =( love my truck tho so these noises arent that big a deal.

I think we have all forgotten the "bump bump" we get from hitting helpless animals crossing the road on accident.

My truck is actually pretty quiet, may be due to Dynamat because I'm generally not very lucky.

The only sound i can think of is the whine of me turning the wheel.
(power steering pump)

Them noises

98 EXP
We have a mysterious rythmic ticking noise at idle in the engine.
Power steering groans liked raped taxpayer footing bill for NO.
Rear trim (loose) on Passenger side engages like machine gun at 60mph.
No horn honkies but have found horns.
Rear wiper sounds like it rips off the hatch after being shut off.

Sounds like we're ahead of many here as we have fewer distinguishing sounds.

mc :D

alright, I dont know if anyone else has this one but my engine will actually hum REALLY loudly at idle, sometimes. Its funny, it comes and goes, but when its on it is so loud it is almost embarassing. I just rev the engine really quick and sometimes it goes away. Other than that I got your basic whine at full turn, a chunck when I stop too quickly, and the 70 mph death wobble.

Damn...

I was halfway thru this post when my computer crashed.
Ok, here it goes again.

When I start my 'sploder when cold I get the classic Ford lifter chatter
When I drive on potholed roads (Read: EVERY road in New Britian, CT) I get the standard clanking and clunking of the RA's (Bushings are spanked)
When I stop lightly, I get pad whine
When I have to wind out 1st hard or I accidentally under rev the engine by starting in 2nd or something like that, I get a nasty rattle from the exhaust somewhere (I think its the heat shield you all speak of)
When I stop at a light, and put the clutch in, then shift into first, I get a clunk from the tranny
When Im in 4x4 on slick roads, starting out, no matter what the front wheels slip then grab solid producing a soft jerking feeling and a clunk from the RA's
When Im driving on the highway, since my drivers door doesn't close completely, I get a nice blast of cold air up my hiney and a whistle. Worse when the passenger window is open.
When I hit a big bump right when the RA's make their presence known, so does the back window, which has no latch on it.
When I start from a stop on a hill, the rear end shudders and clunks once
When I turn on the rear wiper, nothing moves, it only squeals, unless its over 41 degrees outside. Not 40. 40.5 or 40.9 .... 41. :D
When I turn on my stereo, the dual 12" 800 watt RMS Kenwoods in the bandpass box make the rear glass vibrate, rattle and jump slightly.

And the strangest sound of all..

When I start too quickly and bury my foot in the gas, the tires make an awful squealing sound and smoke comes from them.... oh.. yeah.. uhmm. Right.
There's my list for now.

The only noise my truck makes is the damn center console rattling like a beast when I am going 65-69 on the highway or if I am going around a bend on the highway. I used to have squeeky wheels when going between 25-55 mph but that is gone now after I replaced the rotors and the brake pads. I am hoping my center console rattling and whatever else rattling goes away once I replace my tires.

Noise Type - Squeel
From where - Engine Area
Model - 96 XLT 2WD SOHC 4.0
When - In idle, at stoplights etc. (especially if cold)
Mileage - 110,x..

I don't recall the truck doing this when I bought it about a year ago. But one day I noticed a slight squeel coming from the engine bay area. It sounds like it's just inside the left front tire. Not the tire itself of course, but the area of the engine just on the inner part of the left front wheel. I don't know a whole lot about fixing cars or finding out problems so here I am! When I'm in idle, at a stop light, if my car is in Drive it seems to squeel and it's getting LOUDER and LOUDER. It's still not horrible, but noticable at this point and I'm wanting to figure it out incase it's anything bad. I notice the sound goes away if I move the gear between Drive and Neutrel. It'll get quieter and go away sometimes between gears. But when put back into drive it starts again. It's continuous and I think it might have something to do with the tranny after seeing it get quieter between D and N.

Help? Thanks.

I notice mine stopped rattling as much when I lowered my seat all the way down. Do you have power seats? Mine would rub up against the center part when raised making all kinds of horrible rubbing/grinding/tapping noises and when I lowered the seat down it wasn't pressed up on the console as much and now it doesn't do it nearly as bad unless on real rough roads.

Today I drove my little piggy to the market and it went wee wee wee....all the way home.
