'97 5.0 AWD with 210k

- fix driver door lock with spring
- fix driver side rear door latch
- patch sun roof seal
- fix exhaust leak
- replace ball joints, upper and lower, on both sides
- replace sway bar links
- replace auto HVAC actuator
- replace 2 wheels
- 4 new tires
- fix fog lights
- replace hatch shocks
- replace oil pan gasket and drain plug
- replace rear differential seal
- replace shocks
- get transmission reprogrammed
- replace transfer case
- buy an expedition

I'll probably never get to some of this stuff as this was a cheap hand me down truck from my parents who didn't want it anymore, but the darn thing keeps chugging along and the body still looks good. Only paid $700 for it, so i figure something major could die at any moment. But until then, I might as well gradually get it nicer a little bit at a time unless the transfer case goes before I get to it. Usually in these high mile cases though, once you start fixing the little stuff you know of, other little stuff starts creeping up. Darn gremlins!

Thank God my list isn't very expensive.

I just picked up a 1997 with everything but the computer for #2500. It is spotless, except for rust on 3 doors and the front bumper.

Replace burned out bulbs
Replace the hydraulic lifts on the hood and rear hatch.
Fix Power Window on drivers side
Replace Outside Door Handle Drivers side
Replace CD changer. Won't work :-(
2 new tires
Reupholster arm rest
Add Grill Guard
Flush and change all the fluids. (UGH!)
This summer, kill the rust

I have to snap the driver's side seat cover clip back onto the seat frame on the inboard side. That about covers it.

Oh... No wait! The amber paint is wearing off of the front turn signal bulbs too...

I need one driver's side rear door arm rest in blue. Mine has been broken since I got it, and I never see them in blue and can't bring myself to shell out the cash for a different color when I have come acreoss them. I have the XL without power windows or anything, I have seen tons of wrecker explorers with power windows man -argh.

1. Lights! Information Center button lights and cruise control lights.
2. The on/off switch on the radio
3. Oil change and rotation
4. Yearly wax job
5. I got nuthin'

I have 177,600ish on my 2000 V8...right now it needs:

-Transmission flush (has some torque converter shutter)
-Roof leaks fixed
-Transfer case flushed
-Getting close to needing an oil change
-New door lock actuators for the front passenger door, rear drivers door, and back hatch
-New cold air intake filter
-A deep interior cleaning!!!
-Endlinks for the front sway bar
-Tie rod for the passenger side
-Eventually I want to get all new seats since mine are currently all scratched up from the previous owners dog

I think Deuce's new years' projects will be:

Install new water pump for the heck of it
Rebuild front driveshaft
New U-Joints
Maybe running boards if Junior doesn't grow... :D

Oh- I might wax it

I have a 1996 Exp XLT, 2x4 5.0L with 165K miles. Have already fixed various things but left to do are:

1) Front passenger power window motor
2) Passenger side power seat switch. Have a driver side switch on there dangling under the seat. At least I can move the seat if I need to.
3) A/C cools only on Max A/C and full heat on all other settings. I believe this is the blend door problem, yet to verify.
4) Driver seat recliner handle broke. Pending fix with bracket as someone posted here.
5) Rear windshield wiper motor
6) Power steering pump starting to go. Whines after getting up to highway speeds. Quiets down in city driving/slower speeds.
7) 6 CD changer doesn't work most of the time. Once in a blue moon it will work.
8) Stained cabin carpet. Need new carpet.
9) Fix my half assed repair of body damage on passenger side rear door. Will probably get a full paint job at that time.
10) At 165K miles, valves starting to make noise when cold. Nice and quiet after warming up. Will wait for full overhaul at this point as per my mechanic's recommendation. I only put in about 8k miles a year so it will be at least 5 years before I get to needing an overhaul and probably much longer.
11) Both 2nd row doors inside handles don't work. Must be opened from the outside.
12) A couple of times have had a leak in driver side door. Door is very slightly misaligned and will probably have the door adjusted. It doesn't seem to be the door gasket.
13) Possible leak in sunroof. Tested drain tubes and they are OK. Found a small tiny acorn/seed on sunroof gasket which may have caused the leak. No leaks since I cleaned it. Watching for leaks atm.
14) Post cat O2 Sensor needs replacing. Have had the CE light on for years now lol!
15) Can't forget the radio trim/bezel. Rubber coating coming off, will sand and paint or try and find a replacement.

Other than these the darn truck is running superbly. Just installed a new set of Kumoh KL61's and replaced the rear sway bar bushings/endlinks (did the front ones a while back) and the ride is almost like new. Have Monroe Sensatrack shocks and thinking of getting the Edelbrocks for the rear as it seems to lean a bit much in the rear (weak leaf springs?). Just replaced spark plug wires and the engine is nice and smooth with plenty of power. It does have a very slight hiccuping at idle. The interior is really nice (after replacing the center console cover vinyl which had a hole in it) except for the carpet stains under the front seats you can hardly see and the radio trim.

I bought this Exp new in 1996 and has been the best, most reliable vehicle I've ever had.

figure out whats wrong with my tranny (doesnt like shifting into 4th and hard shifts down into 3rd and reverse.):thumbdwn:
WASH HER
wiring for my off road lights( mysterious went out last campign trip and found the ground wire melted:mad:)
fix the leak from the front diff
shocks are shot
growl from the front end area...i think

thats all i can think of for now im but sure there is more

2002 XLT 99k

1) 4X4 Module
2) Front upper ball joints (may just do whole control arms not as cheap but replaces everything easier)
3) Back up sensor
4) Parking brake re-spring

2000 XLS 135,000ish
-shocks
-transfer case shift motor
-parking brake cable
-rear wiper motor

2003 Sport 78,000ish
-I just need to finish installing the new sound system and carputer and putting the interior panels back together.
-And install the long center console I got for it.

98 Explorer Sport

starting...

starter new
battery good
range selector good (i think)
relay good
fuses good
"theft" light not flashing rapidly
-having issues reaching wires to check continuity and voltage

HELP!!

Have you checked to see if the fuel pump relay is functioning, allowing the fuel pump to pressurize the system when the key is turned to the "ON" position before turning to "START"?

Try switching the relay with one of the others in that fuse block. Best choice would be the relay for air conditioning. Sometimes a tap on the relay will cause it to function.
