I have had the tune on my 2019 Sport for about 12k; 44k on the truck now. Running good!

Going to switch to a colder plug. Which ones/brand? Model number? What gap should I have them set to?

Thanks!
Curt

I just gapped my stock plugs to .030".
Livernois recommends the SP542 (1 step colder) gapped at .030".

These? I am also seeing folks suggest a .28 gap with this plug that you suggested. I have a note into Livernois, too. Just want to be sure I get the correct, colder, plug and then have it gapped correctly...

Yes, those are it. But be warned, I've heard some people state that they actually received the Ford replacement SP578s even when ads (not at just Amazon) are saying they are SP542s. SP542 are technically no longer available and have been "superseded" with the SP578. However, they ARE NOT the same. The 578s are NOT the colder step that the 542s are. From what I've understood (can't verify the voracity of this), Ford got away from the SP542s in their standard vehicles because of some sort of emissions thing and moved the SP542s to their "Ford Performance" lineup. Then giving it a new nomenclature of M-12405-35T, seems they are also the ones used in the Ford GT (CYFS-092-YPT3):

If you find some SP542s....stockpile those things, they are getting harder to find.

Oh, and and I would lose the @Livernois tune...

Thanks! I am noticing the same about the plugs. Hard to find.

I see you had issue with their tune. I am verifying which version they have mine in. How can I tell with the handheld tuner? Is there a way? Want to be sure I am not on 11.

I have been running the 91-93 tow tune around town; 87 tow on trips. I have the cooler tstat in too. Hoping I do not have issues??

Thanks!

You mean the "proprietary" handheld device that absolutely no other tuner uses and locks you into their product only, with no ability to ever try another tuner out without having to buy an entirely new device and thus making the one you bought from them an expensive paperweight that you really can't easily sell? That one? LOL

Excuse my sarcasm...I can't stand those guys for SOOOO many reasons and I let it show every chance I get...I know I need to work on that...apologies...

Anyway, IIRC, the MyCalibrator should show what tune is currently loaded and the way they name their tune files should include the version number...

Yea, I can sense you do not like them. I spent 20min scrolling the posts you linked at the SHO forum, too. It’s interesting stuff. I am trying to land the levity of the situation. Are these situations tied to aggressive tunes and upticks to turbos, etc.? Or, are these situations also impacting folks that got the tune and didn’t do anything else? I did the tune, air box and tstat and that’s it. It’s running well, but I also don’t beat on it.

Can surely appreciate your frustration based on what I read for/with you. Just trying to determine how I treat my situation. Hate to lose the cash spent on their products; also, don’t want to afford a new engine. Ugh!

Hey, I'm sure you'll be fine, my actual gripe with them goes beyond mechanical failures. But I don't want to hijack your thread and turn this into a Livernois bashing sesh...if you're truly interested in knowing, feel free to have an offline convo with me.

Back to spark plugs...get your hands on some of those SP542s if you can still find some. I recommend gapping them to 0.028" but you should be fine with the 0.030". I've recently been experimenting with Brisk spark plugs and gap to 0.026":

Brisk Plugs

I've actually gone 2 steps colder as I'm a little further down the power level rabbit hole, LOL, but they also have the single step colder plugs as well. So far so good, no issues as of yet...
