'00 XLT V8 AWD
Guys, I've got a '00 V8 AWD that I'm towing a race car with. My trailer weighs ~1800, the car weighs 2800, I put about 400lbs of gear in the car and then another 400-800 lbs in the truck itself. Then there's passengers...figure at least 2 @ 200lbs ea. Naturally I have terrible sag in the rear...no matter how much care I take to load everything. And I'm using a weight distributing hitch. I've added Bilstein gas shocks which has helped the ride quality when loaded but not the ride height of course. I then added the Hellwig helper springs which has indeed helped a bit, but it's still not enough. I've got the Explorer Pro Comp add-a-leaf but have not put it in yet (any instructions on how to do this out there anywhere?).

I don't really mind a degredation in ride quality providing it's not too drastic. Is there a chance that the leaf pack from an Expedition or F150 would fit in this truck? Or is my best be to do the add-a-leafs? I was thinking I coud also reinstall the Hellwig helpers too. Anyone else towing a lot and finding the rear end seriously underrated?

The downside is that I need to add a wheel rack on my trailer and this will simply add more tongue weight. I really can't move the car back any further on the trailer so adding another 300lbs to the front of it doesn't excite me.

Thanks for suggestions and help!

I think that Explorer Express has air bags specifically for the Explorer. Also you may want to do a search on air bags or air shocks. This way at least you won't have 1 Ton leafs for towing which will kill your ride when unloaded.

If you use it for daily comfort as well as towing I have gathered that air springs/bags/shocks are the best bet.

Good luck
