I decided to post this thread here because of its relevance to unmodified explorers. I want to add a 6 stack cd changer to my 2000 explorer. it wasnt fitted with the optional stacker, and i wanted to find the location of it. I have heard that it might plug straight into some cables at the location of where the stacker is meant to be.
Thanks guys

Have you got the 6CD stacker already because they are worth about $900 from Ford?

You can try and get an aftermarket one but good luck!!, Ford needs to tell you the aftermarket unit’s that can be plugged into their factory head unit. I spoke to 2 dealerships and thay could't tell me, and the Car audio placers can’t do anything until they know what is compatible with the Ford head unit.

For $900 you can get a fairly decent Set up with a Top Brand MP3,CD-RW,CD-R Head unit and decent speakers as well.

Or just get an Apple Ipod

thanks for your reply. I havent got the stacker and i know the price :thumbdwn: but i like the stock head unit, and dont really want to change it because i dont really like the look of the aftermarket ones out there. What are you currently running?>

on mine its underthe rear passenger seat drivers side
you might want to check and see if you can get the cd stacker from the usa its got to be cheaper.

I have been using My Ipod with Itrip FM tuner at the moment with the in car charger, I have a New Sony head unit and speakers that I got cheep from a mate but have never got around to putting it in and don’t know if I will even bother with it.

The Ford price is a Joke; I had Alpine gear in my last car and the Alpine 6-CD Stacker for that cost me $650, and there is no way the Ford unit is better than the Alpine one.

I Have a factory 6 stack cd changer its located in the armrest and i cant get mine to work with my pioneer cd player

I'm not sure if the original poster has solved his issue but most oem ford stackers / changers are inside the center console. Most consoles have small plastic dividers that hold cd's or tapes. This is usually removed to make space for the changer.

Like mentioned by others, the ford changer price is too much. So unless you really want (and absolutely sure) that any changer that you purchase will be usable with your current head unit, then you would probably be better off with an aftermarket changer.

Most non-oem changers will not work with the ford oem radio.

I originally had both factory cd am-fm + ford changer on my 99 sport. It just kept skipping and would play "burned" discs intermittently. Sometimes it would just keep on skipping. Got fed up and changed it to a sony CDMX-8805 HU and a sony CDX-757MX changer. Both play MP3 and burned cd's without skipping.

Will post links to pictures and installation if you want :)
