Can someone tell me how to get the the airbag computer/sensor assembly/diagnostic unit in a 2001 Explorer Sport? I need to check the part number.

Thanks in advance.

I am 90% sure it is center console under the climate controlls.

I can check my book tomorrow at work and give you a 100%

i think it is there also... but dont stick your head in there and try to find it...... one wrong move can set off the bags....

The airbag controller is behind the right kick panel. I have just recently bought one. Regards,

I think 01 and up is different,,,

Really, oh yes, that is a 2001 Sport? Ford made many changes on the 2001+ Sports, to match the new Sport Tracs. Sorry if that turns out to be the case. I have much to learn. Regards,

Guess I would disconnect the battery to play it safe. Thanks for the warning.

Thanks in advance for looking this up for me.

Hi, I am MONMIX's personal messenger wil he is at work.

He says according to his books 2001-2003 Sports aig bag ECM is infact behind the center console. The labor rate on that is pretty low there for should be petty easy.

Pull the radio, and the bezzel and it should be back there.

MONMIX says best of luck.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Do you know of any decent mechanics in Maryland?

I know of a very decent Body Technician. :)

What sort of services are you after ?

Need a back-up in case the body shop that worked on my Explorer gives me the run-around. I need to get this issue resolves asap.

Is Crofton conviently located to you ?

Monmix,

Went to the body shop and fault code was confirmed to be
LFC 36/DTC B1993 - Driver Side, Side mount Airbag Circuit Short to Ground. So its either the bag or the module. The think its still the latter. Will know tomorrow. Btw, I'm in Silver Spring and with the price gouging on gas, its a long drive to Crofton.
