91 ranger xlt 4.0 liter
91 Ranger XLT, 4.0 liter that bucks when at cruising speed. Mechanic friend rode with me and had me apply light pressure to brake during this situation and thinks it's a bad lock up converter. The bucking stopped at this point and resumed when we let the brake off. He says this triggers a sensor in this thing saying I want to slow down and releases the lock up. He is an excellent and honest mechanic whom I trust implicitly, how refreshing is that???
He says if we replaced this he would also go through the whole tranny, basically rebuild, to the tune of say $1500.00 +. Any thoughts? I am not sure if the truck is worth that kind of expense. It is in good not great shape with 158000 miles on it and runs well otherwise.

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmissions & transfer cases section. Start with a band adjustment & kickdown cable adjustment as well as a fluid & filter replacement before rebuilding the transmission.
