I would really like to buy a locker for the rear end. I have heard lock-rite was good. Anyone know if they make one to fit my rear end? And which rear end is that by the way?

Is there a benefit to it, with the computer removin drive to any wheel spinning

Well thats a good point. I kinda thought either the left or right tire wouldnt be able to spin if its locked to the other one that has traction. But I'm no expert. Just looking for ideas to beef up my off road performance.

Ford 8.8 is what I've been told we have and any locker for an 8.8 should fit but you can always ask the company you buy it from.

good luck,
James

By the way if you are thinking of getting one for the front...thats a Dana 35

I installed an Aussie Locker in the 8.8 of my F150. This unit is the same principle as the Lock Rite. The advantage to this type of locker is that the locker fits within the carrier. The Aussie in my F150 would be the same unit to go in the Ex. I did have one clearance issue that the company helped me with. I was able to install myself in a weekend. This locker has been tested time after time. I haul and pull continually with the truck. Never a mishap.

I hope this helps.

There are a ton of lockers made for the Ford 8.8. I bought a Powertrac No Slip for mine several years ago and loved it. If you have any sense about how the rear end works then you can put it in, in just a few hours. Pick up any off road magazine and you'll see the options for different companies.

Doesn't the 2002 have a independent rear?

So you are telling us that a Gen III has an 8.8 rear?

I thought 03 was the Gen 3? I've only been wrong once before :D I don't have any idea about the Gen 3's axles, i was thinking he has a 2 still.

03 is a 3rd Gen, and is 4 wheel independent.

I know they are independant, i have an 04. I just thought thats was a Gen 2, my bad.

Well bully on me. I saw 8.8 and went to spoutin'.

Sorry...

So we have a 8.8 31 spline. Is that an open carrier?

If u have the smaller of the two hitches you have an open carrier. The ones with the actual tow package, which is the 2 in receiver, have a limited slip so you would have to buy an open carrier. If you need to buy one just go down to the local junk yard and you can get a carrier for a normal 8.8 axle and you will be good.

Hope this helps.

you know if you have the factory trac lock you can restack them very tight and be much better for street use and then buy a locker for the front im thinking about buying the aussie for the front of my 91

I do not think it actually does that. When in auto it kicks in power to the front wheels when it detects rear wheel slip but it does not transfer power between wheels on the back.

Yeah I think it transfer power between diffs not each individual wheel.

the lunch box lockers like lockright, aussie and i think detroit has one now require and open diff they go inplace of the spider gears.

I had a lock right once maybe 6 years ago maybe more it lasted about a year and then started slipping under acceleration. the teath had worn down to were they would not grab. i beleive they were bought out after that by richmond and i here quality is alot better. im weery 90% of its use was street.

you can get lockers if you already have a limited slip its just more expensive.

mine has the small hitch but i thought it had limited slip, if it does not ill probable try an aussie.

after my old lockright bit the dust i went to a auburn aggresive limited slip it was about 80% as good as the locker and no chatter etc.
