- 2008 escape
hi folks. we've been thinking about an Explorer for a bit now (currently own a 2008 Escape) as we need to upsize. We need something that both the 2nd and 3rd row seats fold absolutely flat.
and dear lord above, I do not want a minivan. we are not minivan people. But, we need cargo space because we will soon have 3 dogs to transport to agility trials, and the Escape is already crowded. Plus, we need some support in the front seats. we will not be doing off-roading; our biggest concern will be VA weather and some dirt roads. Maybe a pasture or two for parking.
We like the older model Escapes - 2010 and lower. Our concern involves the consumer report reviews of Explorers. Overall consumer reports doesn't rate Explorers very highly.
so my generic question is...those of you with 2010's, have you had problems with the drive system or the transmission? those are the big problems per CR.
my specific question is - there's a 2010 Limited in which we are very interested. it's already had at least one ball joint replaced; i'm asking which one(s) and does the mechanic think there's a prob with any of the others.
also, does the 2010 have 2 ball joints, and MacPherson struts, or 4 ball joints? if all of the ball joints are replaced, does that mean there's little to no chance of them wearing out again, given 'normal' wear and tear? or is there something about the structure that causes them to be worn out more often than say (god forbid) a Honda pilot (which I don't want cuz the front seats aren't very comfortable)?
I see so many Explorers on the road, I just cannot understand why CR gives them such a low rating.
thanks for any info you can provide. I figure, who better to ask than the folks who own these babies?
