as title says looking at a 2k mounty with a blown 5.0, i have a 2/96 5.0 and am wondering what you guys suggest if its worth swapping my low mileage'd good running 96 engine into the 2k? if i did would it be easier to install the 2k's heads onto the 96's block? then all emissions and everything else would be the same. however if i open up the motor i might as well rebuild the blown one, if that is the case its not worth me getting it. any suggestions would be appreciated.

its basically preference cuz like you said if you open it might as well rebuild old one and sell or save good one or just swap good one in with some pains or swap parts to make only one good engine. =\ id say rebuild old one though to be honest

explorerguy thanks thats what i am worried about i already have 2 96-97 explorers one driver one wrecked was looking for something to put the wrecked motor into and possibly resell to recoup some of my money on the wrecked one, but not if i have to put alot of time and work into it

yea and engine rebuild isnt all that hard i redid my 4.0 and had very lil headaches to deal with

it all really depends by what you mean by... blown... is a head broken? is the block cracked? what?

heads are $400 ish machining will be $700 ish. but more importantly the effort in swapping all the engine parts from a 96 will not be fun...

I vote rebuild. plus then you can sell one of those extra trucks for 2,500-3000
