Hey guys so my 96 explorer 4.0 Vin X v6 has had some bottom end noise for some time. It is now getting pretty loud, it is a knocking sound that does not go away. I have sea foamed a few times thinking it was carbon knock, but it never helped. I pulled the tranny thinking it was a cracked flex plate and or spacer, both parts looked good but still replaced with the updated ford flex plate and a updated stronger spacer. Still have the noise, so i have come to the conclusion that i just should replace the motor. There are sooooooo many places online that sell motors that it's hard to tell which one is the best. Does anybody have any good feedback on a remaned ohv long block?

You might try Jasper Engines.

I forgot to mention that i have cleaned the MAF, retorqued lower manifold bolts and replaced upper manifold gaskets, and the knock just hets worse and worse after time. I will check out Jasper

It would be cheaper to swap in a junkyard motor or you could do a v8 swap it would still be cheaper then a remanufactured engine

With a junk yard engine you never know what you are going to get.

A 5.0 is not going to be cheaper as you will need a different transmision, transfer case, computer, ect.

Very true!

You might try autozone or another parts store chain as many of them carry reman engines as well. Not sure how the prices are, but do know they warranty them
