Looking for an Explorer

Looking to buy an Explorer this week or next and have a few questions. I am looking for a 97-99, and want to know how to tell the difference between the over head cam and the pushrod motor. Also, is there anything in particular that I should be aware of.

The easiest way is to look at the engine covers. It will say 4.0 SOHC if its a over head cam motor.

Pop the hood and it'll say SOHC on the top of the SOHC motor. Or check the VIN #, the code for the OHV motor is X.

97-99 is kind of an odd span. 95-97 was the first of the 2nd gens, the 98 was a little different (old front end, new back end) and 99-01 was the newest looking 2nd gen.
