All right so in my search for a replacement vehicle since the Explorer went up in flames, I came across a 1993 Taurus Sho with the 3.2 V6, auto, power everything and just about fully loaded for about $1500 but the only thing I am not comfortable with would be the high mileage. This car has about 138,000 on the motor and tranny. According do the guy I spoke with the cars runs without any issues. So being that you guys are great with all kinds of info I am seeking your wisdom once again. The car is about an hour away from me so I want to make sure I'm not wasting my time and is one of the few cars I came across in my price range that I have an interest in. Thanks.

FordLover here on this board is a huge SHO fan, you might want to send him a PM for a little feed back, also last time I talked with him he had one for sale too.

One of the things I notice is, water pump, not fun to replace, and quite the expensive part, as are head gaskets, and be super cautions about the automatics, like the Explorer this is also not know for being super reliable, besure to check all the rubber coolant hoses along with the intake runner rubber hoses..

I have seen them make upwards of 450hp, with boost and/or spray (5spd of course).

These were also NOT an SVT product, it was designed and built by Ford, although the motor is Yamaha.

SHO's were also not the first 5spd Tarus' produced, in 1986 there was the MT5 with a 4 popper.

Then there is the SHOGUN, a Ford Festiva with an SHO drivetrain stuffed into the back of it.

My mom had one of these from 1994 to 2003. It looked and sounds exactly like the one you just posted. 93' SHO, Green, Auto, fully loaded w/ sunroof, leather, CD w/ 6 speakers, and a real nice overall interior. That 3.2 Litre DOHC 24V Yamaha engine was pretty sweet too. It sounded NICE when accellerating, and boy did it do that well. The ride was really smooth, yet firm. It felt like you were on air most of the time. As far as reliability is concerned, she never ONCE had a problem with the drivetrain! I think we had a few CELs thrown from repeated MAF sensor failures and once she had to replace the belt tensioner pulley. That's all I can remember from it. I know it never had to be put in the shop at all. She got rid of it though at around 150k miles because she feared her luck would run out on it soon and it would start having problems (or so she claimed). I think she just wanted a new car just to have one. But I can tell you now, she really misses that car and I wish she would have kept it and gave it to me to drive in school. But when I found my Ex at the lot, I was torn between them for a while and ultimatly chose the Ex. Even though I cant compare my Ex to that car, I still wish I could have had that thing. And I know if I found another one in mint cond. again, I prolly couldn't resist making an offer.

Well I have decided against the Sho, too many variables and unknowns came into play and the car being an hour away wasn't it making it easy for setting up a ride and such. Sadly my next vehicle probably won't be a Ford as a found a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee just about fully loaded except the sunroof with about 120,000 miles for a good price though a friend of mine. The Explorer will be missed and hopefully in the future I will be able to get another one but I don’t think I can pass up this offer even if it is a Jeep. Thanks for your help and info.

so you pick somethign that NO ONE thinks is reliable?

well, i wish you luck with your money pit.

haha like my explorer is so reliable.
