Looking For Low Mileage Sport Trac 01-05

Assuming they operate in your area, autotrader.com can be helpful in locating a truck. You can specify how far away to look as well as years and models - much like e-bay. I kept seeing the truck I eventually bought on that site, but didn't see it on their lot with the other one they had at the time. What I didn't realize was they have a 2nd lot just up the street that I don't often drive past.

Just takes a lot of looking around. I wasn't even considering a sport trac, but my dad and I took a wrong turn going to look at an F150 and ended up at a dealership with my trac, a 2005 with 18,000 miles and got it for 13K in january 09. Granted it's a 2wd, but still it was the xlt and was just a lucky find. They're out there

Yeah just takes lots of looking. It is sometimes hard to find the deals before they are gone through Craigslist if sport trac is spelt wrong or not even mentioned in the add.

Since now I have avoided dealers, but I am searching all the websites were dealers post ads because it seems they have the best deals compared to private party.

Anyone ever have a vehicle shipped? Did you just trust what the dealer said about the condition of the vehicle or have a local shop check it out?

If so, what shipping company did you use and was you vehicle okay when it arrived? Prices? I guess there are free quotes.

Should I start another thread on shipping?

Have you checked Carmax? I've talked to people with positive experiences with them having cars shipped across the country to a local Carmax. My parents have bought a few vehicles with them and thought it was a good transaction but they never had one shipped.

Not a lot on carmax at the moment, but I check to see if any new sport tracs are listed every now and then. I have an uncle who bought a car off carmax and the transaction was also good for him and the car was shipped to him, but I think carfax has some sort of shipping program that they use through there company. If I buy a car from a dealer out east, then I would have to work with the dealer and a shipper to get it to Colorado. Shipping a vehicle is new to me.

Carmax does it through their own network as I understand it. They only ship and receive their own cars. That's why I brought them up; they take care of it for you. I do think you still pay a holding fee or something though in case you don't but it they keep the money to cover their expenses. You're not under any obligation to buy unseen though.

govvie wouldn't bother me, at least you know it has had its maintenance done.

I guess that's true about the maintenance. The company with that sport trac leases out vehicles to government agencies, so it is kind of a weird program, but they have okay deals.

This truck looks very clean. Wouldn't worry me a bit. Great price for the miles. The bed cover is the only real option I see listed. The rest is standard equipment.

I would stay away from any gov't or fleet vehicle if the interior was a mess. That would indicate it was likely driven by multiple people. Generally people take better care of a truck or car they know is "theirs". When it's available to anyone and everyone, nobody cares how it's treated.

Seems like a clean truck, but a long ways to ship. Most people will treat their own vehicle better than a work vehicle, but this sport trac seems clean inside and out.

I have found 2 other truck like the white government vehicle I posted.
One in Florida 38k miles for $12.5k. Custom rims and tires.
One in Delaware 40k miles for $12.5k. Sold
Too bad they are so far away.Oh well eventually a deal will come along.

Thanks for all the responses! I have look at all the links and I have considered higher miles. It might just take a little time for a lower mileage sport trac to show up.

Anyone ever have a car shipped, but prior to buying the vehicle have the nearest Ford dealership to inspect the vehicle?
