Looking for some advice on a sub and amp

Go ported if you have the space- period. If not, even a passive radiator system is awesome. I've grown to hate sealed enclosures for MOST drivers.

the box that came with the sub is the one from JL which is ported, and im getting it professionally installed by a pretty reputable shop around where i live.

with the MTX sub and JL 10 inch
what size amp wire do you recommend, and speaker wire?
i have connections at the audio shop and as long as i have everything for installation i can get it done cheap.

With the amp, wire it (assuming you mean for power) with a 1/0 kit and a distribution block. This will allow you to add more later (you'll want to). If you mean speaker wire, 18ag or larger. Hell, for the power output, 22ag will suffice, but everyone will tell you to get 10 or so that will carry thousands of watts and cost a lot more.

You'll probably be satisfied with the single 10...

...for about 2 months.

I say go bigger. One 10 in an Explorer isn't going to be much oomph. You'll notice extra bass, but just enough to make you wish you had
more. You'll see!

And IMHO, skip the Rockford and Boss crap, stay away from cheap 3-way garbage, and get a decent set of 5x7 or 6.5" coaxials. Amp those too. Use good amps with more clean power than you need.

But remember - the head unit is the heart and brain of your system. Don't cheap out. Alpine makes great units.

Enjoy!
