loose handle

my 1993 x limited is getting a loose door handle, i heard a snap the other day and since then it gives about an inch before it opens the door its not a huge deal but it is a annoyance to me, anyone know how to fix it, or at least what happened??? could it have been a spring or a plastic piece that i broke? please help

I replaced the door handle on my GFs '98 X last weekend and I found a few useful threads that help with the 'dismantling' process. I was about to torch a hole in the side of the door to get to the exterior handle. Luckily I didn't. Anyway, use the search function because the two threads I read were dealing with your exact same problem.

And when you go to replace the door handle.. REMOVE THE WINDOW GUIDE! It is one bolt holding it in and it will make your project 400x easier.

There is a little clip/spring in there that gives way, run a search here for "broken door handle".
