Hey. Today it's 80 so I plugged in my A/C compressor (unplug it in the winter), and when I engaged the A/C the engine idled really weird and the compressor made a real loud noise. Is the compressor shot or does it need a recharge? Thanks!

When mine took a dump it was making horrible noises and started to get red out. The puppy was smokin. Why do you unplug it in the winter?

Sounds like the clutch is siezed. To see wether or not it needs to be recharged you will have to use A/C gauges, make sure you have the right ones for your system. If memory serves me correctely your low side reading should be between 30-44 psi with the engine running and the A/C set on max.

Does a seized clutch mean time for a new compressor? I unplug it in the winter for the extra power :D

Yep. From my understanding. If its siezed you have to replace the whole thing. Does it give you more power that you notice?

I doubt it, it's been so long. In all honesty I had my hood open one day and my neighbor just unplugged it. He said I should plug it in and run it every month or so though .. Oops

Thats why they have it set up for defrost mode to cycle the compressor. I would think you would notice again in horses unless you had the AC or defrost on.

Time to hit the junkyard and get another one.
