I'm getting a loud metalic clunk coming from the front drivers side on occasions when in 4wd.
I have driven 100km on beach with no issues. One time on a particularly boggy spot, we where having trouble getting out and I saw the front wheel spin clunk and stop then spin clunk and stop several times.
Another time in a boggy spot we let the tyres down a bit and she power out no problem.
Any ideas?????:

that would most likely be your transfer case. i had the same issue with my 98 it would only make noise in 4wd. after awhile it started clunking all the time while i was in 2wd. i eventually just removed the front drive shaft because i couldnt take it anymore. and what really sucks is that transfer cases are not cheap.

i would highly reccomend changing the fluid in the transfer case, let us know what color the fluid is if you decide to change it. hope this helps
