loud humming noise left side of engine? HELP

It is a loud humming noise coming from the left side of the engine, right were the mass intake air cover is? Can anyone tell me what this could be?

Probably your IAC, do a search this is very common.

Thank u, that is what I was told the first time, I have just had so many other opinion's that now I am confused.

I have read that if it was the IAC, I would be stalling, or sputtering and I am not having that problem.

I am having a mechanic look at it tom, at 9am, he said the part was 70 bucks and the labor would be 65 an hour, is that about right?
I don't want to be played! This is my first Explorer, so I am just learning...

Dirty or bad IAC can cause idle problems.

If that is the same noise you are experiencing you will need to either clean (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84220&page=1&highlight=clean+IAC) your IAC or replace it, you can get them at Autozone for around $60 I believe, very easy DIY install.

Yes, JoJoGirl, that price for the part is about right for typical Ford dealers, and so is the cost for labor. This IS something that could have been done yourself in all of about 15 minutes to replace the part since there are no special tools or adjustments needed. Unfortunately, nearly all dealers go by a standard job cost book and even if it took their tech 5 minutes to do, they would charge you whatever the book said that the job called for.
