Before I explain this, I've searched around the board and couldn't find anything and also if this is in the wrong place please relocate it to where it goes :)

........ that said yesterday I started the 95 up and there was a noise under the hood but as soon as I took off it stopped.

Today I start the car and the noise is there again, it goes away when I drive but anytime I idle it comes back (or let off the gas while I'm driving)

I popped the hood and it sounds like its coming from the front left side. I'm kinda car stupid and just getting the hang of this, I plan on learning everything I possibly can and doing my own work. But can anybody tell me what this might be. The noise when its there kinda sounds like the hum of a train nearby? or just a steady roaring noise. Any suggestions would be AWESOME!!

Check your fluids first. Power steering esp. Could possibly be the ISV. I hear they are quite loud when going bad.

Nope its on the right side if you are in the driver seat, left side if you are at the hood lookin in.

dog - im not sure. I think I will take a video to compare the sound too.

That noise is very common on 2nd Gen Explorers (95 - 01). It is caused by the IAC (idle air control). More specifically, it is caused by the relief vent filter(s) under the black plastic cap. When they get dirty, and the ambient temp is warm, the IAC will start to hum.

Here is the fix

Go to this forum: Noise from air intake area--Vacuum cleaner
Lots of detail on how to fix.

I have a sound on the drivers side under the hood right now. It sounds like an unhooked vacuum line. Woooosh. I've checked and can't seem to find anything undone. It really bothers me.
