Hi, I went to the beach and took my daughter out in my 2000 Explorer. Was a little nervous as it was the first time I had taken the truck off road. Pulled well, never a thought that I might get stuck, although the truck does not have a lot of clearance stock. Well on the way back started hearing a loud squeak in the left front. Sounded like a bad brake squeal with it being a regular intermittent squeak and quite loud. It seemed to have no effect on the 4wd system pulling through the sand. I even messed around through the deep sand and no problems. I immediately went to 2wd on the pavement. Pulled into a parking lot and backed up about 50 yards just to make sure the hubs released. Still had the squeak. I drove about 4 miles, stopped checked under front of truck, and found nothing unusual. I felt no heat in the wheel or axle that was abnormal. After about 5 more miles the noise went away. I have checked a couple more times. And no new sounds. Ok so my question is, for those of you who know more about the 4wd system, Do i need to oil, grease, lube, etc. something in the front, or was it probably just sand caught in a weird place. Thanks for any comments and help.
