I have an 02 xls and theres a really loud squeeking noise that is coming from the engine compartment...i know it's coming from on e of the pullies or belt...but i'm not sure which one or wat needs to be replaced...I already replaced the tensioner, idler pulley, and alternator and it's still screaming...does anyone know what it could be or what needs to be fixed or replaced??????

Mine has started a slight squealing noise just over the last few weeks... can't tell where it's coming from.

my 2005 has started making the same noise also. same motor as my ranger had in it but i never see the 4.0 rangers making squeeking noises but i always see 3rd gen explorers making noise.

not just 3rds

its not just 3rd gens my first gen does the same thing i dont know why either but i think ive narrowed it to the lower idler pulley or the alternator

Isn't a squeak and a tik different?

I have developed a squeak as well. The lower idler and tensioner aren't very old, and neither is the best. Last summer I replaced the water pump. Last month I replaced the upper idler hoping it was an easy fix. Pretty much leaves the alternator, AC compressor, and power steering pump. Sounds more like it is coming from the right side, so that would be AC compressor and power steering pump. Left it at a shop for a week, and of course, it didn't squeak ... until I got it back. So, I'm driving it until it squeak often enough to bring it back in, 'cause I don't want to deal with fixing it myself. I've fixed enough stuff on it in the past year.
