ok this is weird..before i cleaned under the hood i noticed in the last month that i had gotton a sqeek when the truck was cold and it was about 30-40 degrees out. well after cleaning under the hood with simple green/water it now has this loud whine. almost like a power steering pump thats low. but i checked that and it was perfect. and its not coming from that area. its either the altranator barings or the pully that attached to the altranator mount(??) thats exactly where it was sqeeking from before. so im thinking barings in either that pully or the altranator?

any ideas if im on the right track or not? this kinda ticks me off  lol

Check the votage on your alt and if it is correct it is the pully.Same thing happened to me.Make sure thier is not to much play in the pully.

the belt an pully are tight(or seem to be?). and the alt is putting out 14.3 or so. weird thing though. after i got done and started it the volt meter gauge was very low. i tunred all acc's off and reved it..it dident change...then i heard a click and the volt meter poped up to normal and it has not went down. i turned on the lights/heater and everything and put it in drive and held my foot on the brake and it dident drop at all.

im wonderin what the heck this could be?!?

well i just went back out..its about 32 outside and the truck had been parked for a hour prolly. i started it and it was quit..just the sqeeking like i had before. then after it got warm the whine started again. its really weird..hopfully it just got wet an it will just dry out. but i dont like that sqeeking at all either. how much is the pully? i would really like to fix this.

allright it sat out all night. im going to go try it and see what it does.

but does anyone have ant info on that pully? i cant find anything...

It sounds more like its your belt tensioner pulley or your idler pulley. Both are an easy fix that you can do yourself. I beleive it is like $20 per pulley from the local auto parts store. I would give those a try before messing with the alternator as what you are describing sounds a lot like what I mentioned.

i just replaced the belt tansioner. it was about to fall aprt.

the sound is coming right from the top.

cool im going to take the belt off and see if i can get this pully off.

Right from the top sounds like the idler pulley. If I was a bettin man I would put my money on the idler pulley. Good luck.

yeah the idler pully is this one right?(sorry dont know my pullys very well)

thats exactly where the sound is coming from. $20 part you say? then its time to run to shucks :)

thanks :D

Thats the evil deamon right there!

It was a $20 part for me to replace when I did it a couple weeks ago. Make sure you fix it asap before the bearings have a chance to blow out and cause some carnage to your belt.

Coat!? Hell, its 66 degrees here. I was working on my truck in a T-shirt his afternoon! :p

38 here..lol

yeah i got it off...its got some play in it and the barings are making a grinding noise..lol = not good.

got a ? though when i get the new one does it come with a new bolt? or do i need to get the one out of this one.

The new one will NOT come with a new bolt. New bearings come with the pulley, but no bolt. You will have to work at your old pulley to get the bolt out. If I remember correctly there is a little disk with slats cut in it on the side of the pulley opposite the bolt head. Just bend the tabs up and it comes off. Once that is off, the bolt should come right off. Keep in mind, though, that that was how it was on my 94, it may be different on yours. Just work at it and you'll get the bolt out.

yeah it has the little slats..do i reuse that little peice of metal with the slats?

not alot of differances in the 91-01 ohvs i dont think(?)

I threw my little metal slat disk in the trash. It is not needed with the new pulley.

Pleasure to be of service

well $30 later i got a new one installed. man its very very quite now. not a peep or sqeek or whine out of it. glad i got it figured out!!
