I think its on the left of the dash along with the low oil indicator. It should be a square light that comes on but you cannot see it when it is off. There is a glass looking space where it is.

I never had it that low to actually find out how many miles you can go after it comes on.

Huh? I have a '92 XLT and it has no low fuel indicator, other than the red band painted at the low end of the fuel gauge. Some of the older Explorers develop fuel gauge sender problems, so many of us use the trip odometer. For average use, tank up at 300 miles.

My 91 doesn't have the warning light

My 91 has one, [pretty sure I have seen it before (unfortunately)].

And considering it was damn near the bottom of "E" I doubt you could get any more than 5-7 miles.

Not many early EXs average 15 mpg and even the fortunate ones that get 15 mpg would be empty at 300 miles.
15 mpg x 20 gallon tank = 300 miles.

I get about 15 mpg in city and 22 mpg on highway.

I just replaced

plugs
wires
fuel filter
o2 sensor
pcv valve
high flow airfilter

made sure tire presure was correct and aswell ran acouple bottles of redline gas treatment through.

You are very fortunate to get 15/22. Many guys like me that have them running great doing all that you have done and more, still only get 12/15 if we drive them right.

22MPG on the HYW is fantastic for a first gen.
Want to trade? LOL!

91-94 Explorers NEVER had a low fuel guage....Whoever says they do can check for themselves, pull the dash LOL.

I have ran mine my 91 to almost completely empty once and never seen any light
I dont think first gens have them

i average 15, MPG with a foot in the gas, and a bad exhaust leak....i think the most i have gotten was almost 17 MPG

thats all city driving

91-94 Don't have a low fuel indicator.

2 Door Navajo, I normally pull 19 in town and 24 on highway. it's all about how you drive them.

Oh, and you can't have big tires, lifts, or anything like that to pull the maximum mileage. Now, i know somebody's going to say that they get good mileage with a lift, but to get the mileage that the window sticker states, you need to leave them stock. :(

Just start driving as far as you can, and when you run outta gas, look for a light. May cost ya an arm and a leg with gas prices right now, but it's a surefire way to find out. btw, don't try what i just said

Interesting, my 93 XLT had a low fuel light.

where is it?
If memory serves me, it was on the lower left of the IP. The 93 has been gone for a while now so I can't just go look.

I KNOW that there is NOT a low gas light on mine . I was running low on gas one day and was also running a little late to school. I tried to make it to school on time instead of getting gas and being late. Since i live 25 miles away from my school, it takes a bit of gas to getto school. Let's just say that i got 15 miles from my house and then, put put, ran out of gas. No fuel light ever came on. And i was late for school.

It must have been some aftermarket device, since all the wiring diagrams, manuals, people tearing entire dashes apart and out here prove that Ford did NOT install one in a 91-94.

I have no idea who put it in, but I remember it coming on as I drove it home from the dealer when I bought it. It ticked me off that they'd put in so little fuel!
