I finally got my sisters explorer running and it has no oil pressure at idle but does when you rev it up. After searching the oil pressure is below 5psi for the gauge to read zero and getting a lot of results of people with little or no oil pressure. So, after a new oil pump, pickup timing chains and guides this is where I am. I found evidence where the timing chains rubbed bolts and created grey/silver dust and it made it to the rod bearings. So, I'm going to drop the pan and try and roll new rod bearings into place and see if that helps.

Also, is there any other reasons why these suffer from low oil pressure?

Have you changed the sensor or installed a mechanical gauge to test actual output?

I have tried 2 different senders with the same results. If I could rig up a cheap gauge I would just to see what the actual pressure is but I'm tired of spending money on it.

If there is a heavy truck junk yard near you, get an oil pressure gauge from an older truck. I spent $5 for a gauge and used copper line from an ice maker kit with some brass adapter fittings at home depot.

Well, I stuck new rod and main bearings in it. I'm glad I did because the old ones were terrible but I'm in the same boat. It does sound better running but lacks oil pressure at idle. I'm gonna stick a manual gauge on it and see what it actually is and rock and roll. Now to try and get some of the warning lights to go away.
