- 1990 Ford Explorer XLT
I have a 1990 Ford Explorer XLT. The 4 wheel drive button engages, but not the low range. There is a loud clattering sound heard while the vehicle is in idle or moving. I went to the wrecking yard and picked up a transfer case motor. After swapping out with the old one. Neither button worked and there still was a loud clanking sound. I replaced with the old one and have the 4 wheel drive button engaging again. Could the problem still be, that I need a new transfer case motor? Or, is there a possible problem with the transfer case itself? Thanks.
