I have a 1995 Explorer that is making a whining noise coming from somewhere near the transfer case. a few weeks ago the noise was sporadic and faint but I took the car in due to a leak coming from the transfer case. the mechanics fixed the leak by R&R the transfer case and replacing the seals and fluid.
As soon as the leak was fixed the whining is constant at all speeds and increases in pitch with an increase in speed.

check the universal joint near the transfer, it may have been getting oiled by the leak thus keeping it quietend down and now isnt getting the free lube job.

or worse the oil from the t-case washed out the grease in the joint

since it's 4wd, try pulling the front driveshaft, if the noise goes away then have the joints in that shaft rebuilt

*edit* I forgot that in 95 there was a vaccum disconnect in the front axle, thus eliminating the front driveshaft... unless that's broken
