SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! I WANT TO LOWER MY EXPLORER BUT I'M NOT SURE IF IT WILL DAMAGE IT. I'M PRETTY SURE YOU HAVE TO GET THE FRONT COIL SPRINGS CUT AND USE BLOCKS ON THE BACK. IF ANYONE HAS EVER LOWERED THERE 91-94 4X4 PLEASE GIVE ME SOME INFO! THANKS

well the good news is : you can cut or machine new coils.
The bad news : it will totaly throw off the alignment, the sterring colum the ball joints, and the driveshaft/hubs.

My advice it's not worth it.

THANKS ALOT FOR YOUR ADVICE PSYKOTONE. I JUST HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION FOR YOU. WILL LOWERING MY EXPLORER HAVE ANY EFFECT ON MY TRANSMISSION? THANKS

good question, I'm going to presume it's an auto and say no it won't effect the rear: however it might destroy the front diffiretial(sp). i'm pretty sure about that but not possitive, Anyone else?

I have a 92 explorer 2X4..i used eibach springs in the front which lowered the front a few inches and needed 3 1/4 eccentrics to correct the camber..and then i put 3inch blocks on the rear to make the car flat because the stock height was tilted down in the front a little. the rear has a harsh ride cause some big bumbs, the rear axle hits the frame a shaking the whole car but other then that it looks fine.

hey explain the 2x4 thing, i don't quite understand, just me being stupid i guess. tahnks

hey, I preety sure cutting the springs would mess up camber but that should be easy to fix any ideas any one. It would only be 2 inches or shorter (cut) so the drop would only 1 to 2 inches, becuase the 4x4 tranny gets close to the engine headers. and ideas, Please.

PsykoTone,

2x4 or 4x2 means 2 wheel drive. no front diferential or driveshaft or tranny case to worry about and no ford auto hubs

so any ideas

so do you thinking you cut the front coils a little and change camber bolts, to correct alignment. and switch to Warn Hubs.

what are warn hubs and how do u get them? I had a problem finding wheels i liked that fit my truck because the hubs stuck out. Will those hubs not stick out like the factory ones?

Warn Hubs replace the factory hubs, they are a manual lock, so you know your in 4X4 when you lock them. They will not make your front "roters" flush. ANY IDEAS ON CUTTING FRONT SPRINGS!!! ANY ONE?

don't lower a 4x4, its is against all logic! I like lowered trucks, there cool but 4x4's are not what you lower, it will be to much hassle with all the 4x4 stuff on it. I am just trying to help ya out...

cutting springs

why do you want to cut the springs? doing that was so 50 years a go!!!!!!!!!
they invented dropped springs for a reason. sure you might save a couple of $$ cutting your springs, but your ride quality will be decreased severly. buying a kit saves your ball joints(w/ camber bushings) u-joints on a 4x4 and you dont have to waste your time cutting them either. even if you do cut your springs, it will never sit level until you buy either factory coils or dropped ones. as for the back, i would use 3 inch dropped leafs from stillen or aim industries w/ 1 inch dropped blocks and 2 inch frame notch. a ranger one should work

drop coils are not available for 91-94 4x4 explorers so cutting them is the only option. I live in WV and it is almost impossible to find a 2wd explorer around here.

yea, try finding one in maine. any way i'm just looking at all options i know "dropping" a 4x4 is not "logical" but thats what makes it different and more challenging. I've got another project thats lifted sittin on 33's (i'm not allowed to metion what type of car it is though.) I love my X right to death and plan on having the whole engine rebuilt, with horsepower additives. It' looks dumb as hell at a drag strip to have 31's on your ride. Thats why i'm looking to go lower buy an inch or two, just so i can run smaller, wider tires, with out it looking flamming stupid. maybe i'll just try it any way, as soon as i buy a back up set of coils.

eibach makes 2" drop springs for a ranger and there are also i-beams that would drop the front 3"..springs were $170 and i got quoted $300 for the i-beams

id92
hey whats up, that kit is for a 2wd cuase they don't make 4wd dropped i-beams, anywho, i talked to freind that works at a machine shop and siad he could try to make a set for 4x4 but after looking he said it's almost impossible, and if it is possible it's going to expensive. (mind you, this guy drives a 2-door hard top benz) so if he's says it's going to be expensive ....welll.....it is.

i could ask the guy about the i-beams he told me about..i'm not sure about the specs..there's plenty of those benzs' out here believe me :)

BAD IDEA

I HAVE A 93 EXPLORER I HAVE DONE MUCH TO IT.
TAKE MY ADVICE AND DONT THINK ABOUT IT. THE RIDE IS HORRIBLE IF IT IS LOWERED. I HAVE A LOT OF MECHANIC BUDDIES AND THEY HAVE DONE ME A FAVOR BY NOT HELPING MY DROP MY RIDE. SAVE THE MONEY AND ENHANCE SOMETHING ELSE ON YOUR TRUCK.TRUST ME
