I converted my Ex to run on LPG a few months back but only seem to get about 11 or 12 miles to the gallon (equiv to around 23mpg on petrol).

I do a 30 mile round trip most days on dual carriageway travelling about 70 - 80mph but I may as well be running on blinkin petrol!

just wondering what other converted Ex's are getting............

.

Have been keeping a record, using an app called 'Gas Cubby' on my iphone, over the last year I have averaged 16.9mpg running on LPG. This has been a mix of long trips up motorway and days crawling around London, where it can take up to 2hrs to travel 12 miles!!
Have you taken the Ex back to the people who converted it to have the LPG system adjusted after the first 1000 miles?

Now then! I can comment on this with confidence becuase this was one of the big things about having the Explorer for me. It came with gas fitted - I don't know enough yet to know which kit - and I had the good fortune to have a few long distance trips almost as soon as we got the truck.

It did 18mpg to work and back which is a 24 mile trip each way cross country. It did 22mpg on the motorway on trips of 160-180 miles each way but that was predominantly in cruise at 65mph. If you drive at 70-80, yes, the mileage will hit the skids but I'd be very surprised to drop to t figures you're quoting unless there's something wrong OR you stamp on the loud pedal hard as you drive away.

The other big influence apparently is spark plug or specifically plug gaps. My brother-in-law ran a garage in Canada for a long while and when I got the truck, he mentioned something to me about being sensitive to plug gaps. I recently changed my plugs (NGK platinums - great plugs, b....d job!) and mistakenly CLOSED the gaps a bit. I'm now getting 16 to work and 18 on a run so in spite of the ***** of a job, they're comeing out to get re-gapped!

Hope some of this helps.

Jon
