Happy New Year guys!

Where do you guys get your Explorers serviced or do you do it yourselves? Mines about 9k after it's last service now and is running pretty badly (check engine light on and really rough running - got progressively worse over last thousand miles). I know I should try cleaning the MAF but i've not got round to doing it and it needs a proper service anyway!

I was going to take it to Perrys Ford in High Wycombe but they wanted almost £450 which I thought was a bit steep to be honest just for a service

Anyone know of any good specialists in the South? Pref close to south Buckinghamshire but anywhere considered!

Thanks

I have to say that the Ford Dealers over here don't seem to know much about the Explorer. Personally I have always serviced my own cars and the Explorer is no exception. Arm yourself with a good set of tools and a Haynes manual. DIY is the way to go. Most parts are not too bad to get hold of.

The CEL is a bit of a worry if you don't have a scanner to extract the error codes.
My local Ford agent (George Wright, Cleckheaton) charge approx £95 for a basic annual service but it's not much more than a good tyre kicking. They do an oil & filter change but most other service items like air filter are on a 'check and replace if necessary' basis.
The 60,000 mile service is a MAJOR service. It involves changing ALL fluids & oils, sparkplugs, air and (I think) fuel filters, A/C recharge and other stuff that I can't remember. They charge approx £450 for the 60,000 mile service...
I used them for my '98 Ex as I bought it from a main dealer and I wanted to keep up a Ford service history.
My current 2000, North Face has NEVER been to 'proper' Ford service agent so I think I will let them go over it and check out any codes and the recall history when the next service is due. BTW, it was supplied new by Carcraft who did a couple of services according to the stamps. The next 2 stamps are from independent car sales outfits, including the one where I bought it.
I plan on doing my own oil & filter change shortly and after Ford have done one service I will do it myself. (Don't fancy doing the sparkplugs, though...)
