2002 Mountaineer, V8 2wd 145,000 miles
slowing into a stop it runs about 1100RPM. In the last bit, maybe 1/2 MPH. The RPM plunges to about 500RPM. Once stopped it frequently lurches 3-4 times like it wants to take off or die. (also happens in reverse). No lights are triggered, It has been doing this for about a month. In that time it has stalled 3 times while lurching. Just because it couldn't hurt and I had no knowledge of previous maintenance, I changed the plugs and coil packs. No changes
It didn't have any codes on a standard OBD2 reader but my mechanic put it on his PC tied to a service he prescribes to and It throws a P1780 code "Trans control switch out of range". He has fun toys but is not the sharpest knife so to speak and wanted to study up on it.
I am the 2nd owner and was told the transmission had been rebuilt.
Any previous experiences or opinions would be appreciated.
