Lurching while slowing down.

When driving our 04 Explorer Limited at highway speeds (over 40-50 mph) and letting off the accellerator, the vehicle wants to lurch almost like it is trying to shift into 4wd. It will continue until the vehicle is usually under 30 mph. If 4wd is engaged, it does not do this. Any ideas as to what may be causing this???

Are you applying the brake or just letting it coast?

I am talking about just letting off the gas at about 50-60 mph. it will also do it when applying the brake too until it gets under about 30 mph. hope this helps.
