Can you change the shifting positions on the R1? Im swapping the 5r55e with an m5od and need the position to be closest to the bellhousing.

If this is in your Aerostar you shouldn’t have an issue, as they came from the factory with 5 speeds.

They did in 89' but the gearboxes had a different position for the shifter.

It didn’t just have a different linkage?

The aerostar M5OD shifter location is different than the ranger or explorer. The extension housing is also 3 inches longer. The $64k question is which motor do you have? If it is the 4.0L you can get a 3.0L aerostar M5OD and swap all the parts over to a 4.0L transmission. What I did when I swapped a M5OD in my 91 aerostar was cut a new hole, used a ranger transmission and used the factory cup holder to fill the void where the auto shifter was.

I have the 4.0l, the main issue is finding an aero m5od. It took me six months to find the pedals and everything associated to do the swap, Id have an easier time finding jesus in the back of a patrol car than stumbling on one of those m5s'. Since the ranger/exploder m5od is more common, Ill just have to give up the center console... :(

Car-part.com has a 1 page list of junk yards with that transmission. Most will ship to you. That is how I found everything I needed to do a manual transmission swap on my van.
