MAC Intake Post-Install Question

Well I just got done installing the MAC intake for my '03 4.6L. It fits super tight, but it's all in! One question though b/c I'm so paranoid late at night...if for some reason the intake disconnects where it joins @ the TB, will a CEI be thrown? If for some reason anything could go wrong, that's the place and I just want to be sure I catch it...

Yes, because there will then be no air through the MAF. It will do more than through a CEL, it will run really bad, too.

The intake will not disconnect if the fittings are installed properly and the screws/clamps are secure.

I have used mine for years with absolutely no issues.

I hope that's the case. I can tell that this is a universal intake for the 02-03 4.0/4.6's just because of how tight of a fit it is. The MAC air filter is right up against my engine wall and barely went in.

I'd like to get rid of the oiled gauze filter that came with and use a synthetic one from amsoil. With my tight-fitting situation, the biggest filter I can have is 6.25" complete from end to end.

Will this one from amsoil work? I'm a little confused about their dimension abbreviations....

I hope that's the case. I can tell that this is a universal intake for the 02-03 4.0/4.6's just because of how tight of a fit it is. The MAC air filter is right up against my engine wall and barely went in.

Its possible you could have issues with a filter tight against the inner fender transfering vibrations. I would definately find a smaller one.

Just finishing up some posts so that I don't leave people hanging for future reference.

Here's a picture of the MAC intake for the 02-03 V8 Explorer, part #3646.

Notice how tight the filter is on this. I'm going with an Amsoil univeral induction filter once I call up a rep to order. The tube diameter is 3.5" and the filter length cannot be more than 6.25" total.

Ran this exact filter on our '02 for 3-4 years without a problem. It fit that tight as well. I honestly don't think you have anything to worry about.
