made abs plastic air intake pipe

Happy holidays to all....
I had posted some questions about this some time ago... I got some answers advising against it, but since I had some time to spare, I went ahead and did anyway....

I have a '04 xls, with a kkm which does not come with the pipe, you have to keep the stoke hose... I didn't like it, and didn't have the $150+ that full other intake would cost.... so I went to lowes, homedepot or one of those and got me some ABS plastic elbows and made me an air intake pipe

I don't know/think that it will perform much better than stock, but it is way smoother inside.... I spent some time making sure that all the unions were smooth... Is that ABS or painted PVC? Either way, looks good and I hope it doesn't melt (if it's ABS it won't, but PVC may).

I had to use combo pvc and abs... the elbows are 3in 45 and 90 degrees; the internal joint is pvc; also 3 in; the vaccumm inlet (the small pipe on the side) is also pvc... I think I paid about $20 for all the abs parts; the kkm I already had - which came with the cone filter - but I know in auto zone and such, they go for about $30/$40)... including one 3 in rubber/clamp to connect the pipe to the throttle body...

if it melts, I carry the original setup (I thought about it too... so just incase)... plus I can rebuilt it completly out of abs.... I even tried exhaust pipe, but it is too heavy, hard to work with and expensive...

I chose the ABS after seeing all the plastic/rubber parts that are under the hood... is that a special plastic/rubber?

Not trying to tell you what to do but leaving the air filter wide open in the engine bay like does not help as far as horsepower all it does is suck all the hot air in the bay and thats not efficent for the engine. A true cold air intake draws cold air from another place like the fender well not the engine bay. But if your going for looks alone it does look good. Only trying to help

Where does the stock airbox pull air from on your alls trucks? My 01 mustang had a k&n kit it had a shield or box around it and a gasket at top so when the hood was down it would draw cool air from behind the passenger headlight. When I would take it to the track I would pull the two clips and take the whole head light out to allow more air to be forced in when I sprayed it

Yeah, I know.... I thought about it, but then realized that not much air could pass through behind my head light... the hole is all full of cables for the h.i.d. kit, high beams, etc... I also noticed that most of the c.a.i. kits that are out there, do not have the heat shield (volant, some K&N do... but they are too $$$)...

I came up with three solutions.... right now I'm debating which one to go with...

1. extend that abs piping downward and put the cone filter down there... and leave the air temp sensor with it is? (or move it down with the cone?).

2. modify the stock air box (may be get another one from a junk yard) to accommodate the air cone....

3. make a functional hood scoop and create a box to close the cone and let only air from the scoop in...

I forgot to mention that I went to the "local muffle shop" the other day to show them the "intake" and ask them if they could make it out of metal..... they say the would charge me $50.00 to bend an aluminized pipe with the welded "nipple"... not bad comparing some of the "intakes" I saw in some of the auto parts stores... just "toy plastic" for $40 + ???? ridiculous.... that's what made me go with abs....
