hey guys having some dramas with my ex after having to drive through some large flooded sections of road after a freak storm this afternoon. she;s got a rough idle and when i check it with my SCT X3 it come up with Mass Air Flow sensor circuit intermittent failure. and theres a weird noise coming from the air intake.

one of the flooded section was high enough that water was at the top of the bonnet level

any ideas guys?

cheers

Dan

i pull it apart and make sure there is not water up in there. Ever hear of HydroLocked, takes out the whole motor. imho, i don't think i'd let the water get that high next time. .

to start u need to pull the air box apart and make shoure all water is removed.pull the maf off and clean it with maf cleaner u can pick up at any auto parts store. go from there and see what happens

cheers guys, yeh it didnt look that deep but halfway through it just dropped aye, bloody freak storm came out of no where aye so many ppls cars recieved very bad hail damage

I used to drive my Explorer through deep water until I checked the fluid in the rear and found it had the consistency of chocolate milk. They were leaking badly; the bearings and seals were shot. I ended up having both the front and rear differentials replaced with used parts. I drive around the deep stuff now. The vents won't keep the water out.

alright so i pulled the pod filter, maf sensor, and intake pipe off, all were dry but i gave them all a clean anyway and its still doin the same thing. the noise through the intake is very prominent , almost like turbulence in there or something, its real hard to explain, but the motor shudders a bit when the noise is there. its most prominent while driving when slowing down and at idle until the idle drops below 800rpm

any more thoughts guys?

Just thought id update on this issue

after discussing the issue with my mechanic and researching a bit more on here i decided that it was the iac causing the issues, so today i pulled it off and cleaned it out with throttle body cleaner, replaced the gasket(which i had to make my self cos like everything with this vehicle Ford Australia dont have any parts) and put it all back together and everything is sweet, no more rough idle, no more intake noise... so far anyway.

hopefully this is the fix and i suggest anyone else with this problem to give it a go.

thank you for the update!! Sorry i missed this thread or i would have chimed in earlier, glad you got her fixed alright though.

Alright so the fix only seemed to last 24hrs and the noise n such has come back . so im thinking that maybe the IAC unit is stuffed?? or the throttle body?? otherwise ive got no idea.

how much is it for a new IAC unit over there? down here Ford want like $250 for one and no one else stocks parts for explorers here.

cheers guys
