MAFS question

its trying to make me download itunes to view the video. not something i'm really looking to do.........

Just use the search function on this site. Look up something to effect of "IAC cleaning" or "IAC replacement". It's dead easy to do. Replacement is the most prudent option. Try cleaning first. You might luck out.

That's a SOHC engine. You have OHV. Similar concept.

yea i dont know much about under the hood. i know that most people with hondas have no problem taking their mas off i see it all the time. but i'm sure fords are nothing like a japanese car. i'll see what happens with this valve idea if i can find it. thanks guys.

Ricers do lots of STUPID things to their cars. You really going to trust them?

i used to be on the import scene. not a ricer, i had a eclipse spyder turbo, but yes those honda guys would rip stuff outta their car like no tomorrow. and no i don't trust them, which is why i posted this thread. hopefully this iac idea will solve the issues.

got the IAC off but i don't see any "felt" anywhere on this thing...

The little black plastic cap on the side of the IAC. Just yank it off. If you can seprerate it that's where you'll find the filtering media (felt I guess). I just soaked the thing in denatured alcohol over nite. Let it dry. Put it on 2 days later. It's been fine ever since. Good luck. And back to the removal of the mass air sensor; I've never heard of ANY one- not hondas, or mitsus or any thing- just removing their MAS. Most of those guys are more into tuning their computers and ALL of the sensors than any one on this board. I'd love to see a Honda that is supposed to have a MAS ( I guess any VTec) that's still running well with out it. This just blows my mind. Well any way, if any one's found any links w/ pics or better vids or time slips or comparisons, I'd love to see it! Adios y'all...

Doesn't the computer just load default values when it's not receiving maf readings? I know it will trip the CEL but I was thinking if the computer detects a missing or mal-functioning maf it will just load in some default values to keep the vehicle operating, not at best "performance" but at minimum operating conditions.

Yeah, it uses all the other sensors to interpolate the correct A/F. I think TPS, and O2 sensors for the most part.

I know that OBD-II vehicles can load use default values if one of the sensors goes out of range. However, on OBD-I, I don't believe this is possible. I accidentally left the MAF harness off once after changing the air filter, and it ran like absolute crap. Would not hold idle, bouncing RPMs, and black smoke out the exhaust. This was on my old 1993 Explorer.

Just for kicks I tried the same thing on my 2000. The CEL came on after awhile, but it still idled perfect.
