major power issues

i got a 91EB today. the owner said it had power problems so i didnt get suckered or anything. when i drove it home it was just a dog. barely above 45mph and no acceleration whatsoever. ive driven my grandpas ranger with the 4.0 and it was snappy so i know the motor has power somewhere. any help would be greatly appriciated

What have you checked so far?

I would do a complete tune-up... plugs, wires, air filter, clean the MAF, all the good stuff.

i just got it but the first thing i was going to do was a tune up w/new fluids and stuff. i havent checked much, the garage is full and its snowing like a mother.
