Making Oil - I'll be Rich!

Just check it again, more than once. Getting an accurate reading is not hard by simply checking it twice or more, especially the transmission. The trans dipstick often will show high on one side because it touches the dipstick tube, getting ATF on it. Those you figure out which side measures right, and look at just that side.
The automatic transmission in the 2020 Explorer does not have a transmission fluid dipstick.

If it is still reading high, just keep checking it and wiping the dipstick off and slowly you will get down to the full mark.

Yeah, it doesn't have a dipstick, which is dumb and always will be. I try to forget that stupidity, so forgive me if I mention a dipstick in the future, again.

As a courtesy to anyone who was following this thread, I have sold my vehicle and will not be posting any further updates. I sold it before the 5,000 mile change I was going to do, so I can not comment on the status of the engine oil.

I would recommend to anyone in this forum (especially after reading on the F-150 forums) to have their oil analyzed. I was shocked that no forum members here had any data that I could even compare with. Good luck to everyone and I hope you have fewer issues with your Explorers than I did.

Thank you Lobo for your contributions to the Forum. I have, however, seen several very detailed reports of oil analyses from Blackstone Labs posted in this forum.

I had not seen any oil reports for the 6th gen 2.3 engines so I'll upload mine to assist anyone interested in comparing. Hope this helps.

Seems you have a dilution problem which appears relatively common on direct injection engines.

I changed my factory oil at 5,000 miles and it seemed okay. However I have about 3,000 on the new oil (NAPA full synthetic) and it has risen on the dipstick. And it seems to have a stronger fuel smell than I am accustomed to in my other vehicles. May do an oil analysis soon to see if dilution is a problem.

I got my report back. Like others results of fuel dilution.

I think it’s pretty significant on most GDI engines. My wife’s previous car, a Mazda CX5, experienced the same issue as OP - the oil level rose because of fuel dilution. I know the Honda 1.5L is notorious for it.

I don’t need to do an analysis on my wife’s explorer, the oil smells like fuel when draining lol.

I do 5k mi OCI / every 6mo. Run it.
