anyone know what percentage of 91-94 explorers had the manual t-case rather than pushbutton?

Down here in the south the few 4x4 explorers I do run across are all pushbutton. Seems like most 4x4 explorers are transplants from up north, and have rust.

I'm not a newbie here, but I sold my 94 2wd explorer sport about 2 years ago and decided I wouldn't have another truck unless it was 4x4.
Fate smiled upon me, and I found a 92 2dr 4x4 with manual t-case/hubs, and manual tranny. I was just wondering how unusual this was to find.

As a moderator on SHOforum.com (Ford Taurus SHO's) I understand the annoyance of newbie questions, and I'll do my best to keep them to a minimum.

First real question.. The truck has manual windows and the door pull is ripped off (obviously a common problem) Is fordpartsnetwork.com the best place to find a replacement?

Thanks for reading!

or a junk yard, or there are awalys people parting out their trucks on here, you could get all the stuff to convert to electric windows relatively cheap.

It still amazes me that 4x4 Explorers are rare in Texas, but I have heard it many times. YES, in TX, a 4x4 X is hard to come by!

Yea, forget the manny windows! From what I have seen, manny windows are, in general, rare. Most Xs I have seen have power. There are lots of such parts here, in junkyards, and on eBay. Make the switch over to power windows.

In the northern section of Texas, 4x4's are more common. But in/around Houston, we see snow here once every 8-10 years (Lived here all my life, 23 y/o and I've seen snow here twice). Doesn't really make the 2-3K dollar option worth it for most vehicle buyers.

I'm kinda happy this truck doesn't have any power stuff, I had to pull the motor and replace the gear drive in the power window on my 94 Sport. Not that I wouldn't upgrade to power stuff if it was cheap to get all the parts, but at this point, I just wanna be able to close the door, and put all my money towards lift/limited slip rear end. Junk yards aren't an option for door pull because there are zero explorers down here with manual windows, and 2 doors aren't that common.

I'm strictly gonna use it as a mild off road toy, so there is a good chance at one time or another it's gonna get very dirty, and maybe very wet.

Any really good suggestions on what to do about the intake..don't wanna hydrolock it..

Well the KKM cone filter is good. If you are worried that it will hyrdolock then maybe make a snorkle.

One last question, for now..

Is the manual 4x4 shift-on-the fly?
Basically- if the front hubs are locked in (factory manual) can the manual transfer case be shifted between 2hi and 4 hi?

I searched thru 9 pages of 'my 4x4 doesn't work' but no info on how to work it.

it would probrally work but it will be bad for it i think that there is a certain speed at which you can do it at

Last I heard, the door pull piece is not a Ford replacable part, they sell you the entire door panel..

There are door pulls sold on ebay all the time.. and they seem to sell quite often.. this is an aftermarket part, but from the ebay feedback, they are working.
